Post Interview Wrap-Up

Career911

The job search is a process, and you should become better at interviewing the more you do it. One way to help yourself improve is to perform a self-critique immediately after each interview. You should write down your thoughts as soon as possible after the interview, while it is fresh in your mind. If a particular question caused you a problem, you can later figure out a better answer in case it is asked again in another interview.
Consider the following questions:

  • In what specific skills, experiences or background did the interviewer seem most interested?
  • What specific questions were most difficult to answer? Why?
  • What was the interviewer fishing for with those difficult questions?
  • Were you adequately knowledgeable about the company, its mission, structure and/or protocol?
  • What did the interviewer say about salary? How did you respond?
  • How did you feel about the interview overall? Why?
  • What will you do differently in the next interview?
  • Was the next interview indicated? When will it be?
  • What must you study, practice or learn before your next interview with this company?
